All About Hiking Close to Home
Hiking Close to Home is the blog I wish I could have had when I had no time to look for myself.
Working full time with a young daughter and an old house, I wished for a menu of places to hike close to home. I'd used up available guidebook suggestions pretty quickly. Free time mostly came without warning and it might offer only an hour or two. Some days I had my daughter with me; other days the weather was unpredictable and quick 'escape routes' were essential; sometimes I sought a place that was meditative and sometimes one that was stimulating--a trail, a mountain, a bike path, a garden.
Looking for hiking trails close to home takes time and planning--especially when you've already explored the easy-to-find places. What I didn't have was time and energy to fiind new and interesting places, especially on those last-minute opportunities.
Now I have time to look. It's eye opening and exciting. Right around the corner, places I never knew existed. With a little drive even more than can be described.
Why, just the other day I found Madame Sherri’s State Forest right over the Northfield (MA) -Hinsdale (NH) line —what a name for a forest—but you should see her picture and walk up her ruins!
Join me and share your own discoveries!
